How did you come up with the idea for this product?

Colin Cudmore attended a lecture by urban agriculture guru Will Allen (founder of Growing Power). Colin was so perturbed by the state of fresh food availability in many of our cities across the United States that he literally made it a personal goal to make a difference and help change the landscape of “food deserts”. Since 2010 Colin Cudmore and Joel Grant have been harnessing the natural and ancient methods of breaking down organics to nourish new plants for healthy produce in three distinct generations of Garden Towers – The Original Garden Tower, the Garden Tower 1.1, and the Garden Tower 2. The Garden Tower is a thoroughly optimized vertical keyhole garden which draws on efficient nutrient and water management design principles from ancient arid African agriculture.

What makes your product special?

The moment a person begins growing some of their own food organically they are closer to a healthier life and contributing to a more resilient system of agriculture. For many people in many different environments around the world, the Garden Tower 2 is a very nice solution to make growing a significant amount of organic product achievable in an otherwise unproductive space.

What has been the best part of your startup experience?

Based on the success of the Original Garden Tower and Garden Tower 1.1, backers on Kickstarter (and Garden Tower users) came together to raise $431,000 to make the Garden Tower 2 a reality. The rate at which the Garden Tower user community is growing and how freely gardeners share experiences, insights, and new ideas literally pushes us further every day.

The planter is great for growing strawberries, herbs, succulents, flowers, peppers, lettuce, and much more in a one square foot vertical space. Water from the top and with the flow through design you will not need to worry about over watering or root rot. If indoors, the bottom drip tray will catch any mess from occurring after a watering. Also, you could break the 5 layers into two separate planters having a mini 2 tier herb garden and 3 tier strawberry planter. If you are growing hydroponically this is also the product for you. The premium kit includes a USA-made laser-cut and double powder coated heavyweight steel support structure, hardware, and three heavy duty double locking (rotational axis locking) triple ball bearing black casters (imported). This Bundle packages the Premium Caster Wheel Kit with the composting 50 plant vertical Garden Tower 2 for organic patio vegetable gardening.

The English composting garden is a stacking, vertical composting planter. The circular exterior is designed with a brick texture to give it that classical, stone appearance. Each planter pod can hold about 5 gallons of growing media and thanks to its circular construction, can showcase plants and vegetation on all sides. This is especially useful for controlling the amount of sun or shade received by certain plants by strategically positioning the planter around the home or among foliage. The pods can also be stacked as many as desired (max 6 recommended) or used as individual planters around an area. The English composting garden also features a hollowed core which can be filled with additional soil, fertilizer and compost. This is perfect for worm composting as they dramatically increase nutrient production when mixed with the compost, making plants thrive. When the pods are stacked in a garden, worms can also penetrate the compost from the bottom, spreading nutrients to the plants in the tower and throughout the surrounding garden soil. Each pod is made from polyethylene, a naturally inert and incredibly strong material that’s weatherproof and nature proof. There are also several drain holes that allow moisture to escape to avoid root rot. Made in the USA with several color options.
