The Farnese Hercules is a massive and muscular marble statue, following a lost original cast in bronze through a method called lost wax casting. It depicts a weary Hercules leaning on his club, which has his lion-skin draped over it. He is performing one of the last of The Twelve Labours, which is suggested by the apples of the Hesperides he holds behind his back. This prominently-sited statue was well liked by the Romans, and copies have been found in Roman palaces and gymnasiums: another, coarser, stood in the courtyard of Palazzo Farnese; one with the feigned ( but probably ancient) inscription “Lykippos” has stood in the court of Palazzo Pitti, Florence, since the sixteenth century. As the original, our sculpture is made of 100% bronze mounted onto a solid base of marble and it is signed with GLYCON. The many and filigree details make this sculpture being a special mytholgy art object.
As all of the bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is hand-cast in our own foundry and subject to our strict quality inspections throughout the entire process of fabrication. All of our sculptures are exclusively compounded with the help of lost-wax casting.

Farnese Hercules Heracles Greek Cast Marble Sculpture Statue Museum Copy 13in
- Subject: Antique print, titled: '3' - This original antique print shows the Farnese Hecules (Hercules a labore quiescens, Segmenta nobilium signorum e statuaru). It depicts a muscular, yet weary, Hercules leaning on his club, which has the skin of the Nemean lion draped over it. In myths about Heracles, killing the lion was his first task. He has just performed one of the last of The Twelve Labours, which is suggested by the apples of the Hesperides he holds behind his back.
Material & Manufacture process: Cast Marble Cast Marble statues are made from a composite material in which natural crushed Greek Marble stone is mixed with a small quantity of resin that works as a glue. The mixture is then poured into a mold of the statue design. Because the powder is so fine the smallest details can be reproduced using this method. Over 90% of the finished sculpture is natural crushed Greek Marble stone, which gives it a look and feel of solid natural marble. All sculptures are finished by hand to ensure the finest quality. This strong material is water and weather resistant, doesn’t have bubbles, will not crack, and can be washed with most cleaning agents. Please note: Our statues are not carved. Natural marble statues are hand carved and command a very hefty price. Our product offerings are intended to be affordable to the majority public.

Description: From: ‘Segmenta nobilium sinorum et statuarum.’, published in 1638. Although Perrier was French, he fell in love with Rome when he traveled there first in 1628 and then returning in 1635 and remaining for 10 years. While there, he completed this series of 100 views of Roman statuary in the various palaces and gardens, including the Medici and Vatican gardens and the Palazzo Farnese. In 1660 this work was published in Dutch with newly copied / etched plates by van Dalen. Ref: Ref: Robert-Dumesnil 187 Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Francois Perrier’ after own design. Francois Perrier (Pontarlier 1590 – Paris 1650) was a French painter and etcher. He resided in Rome from 1620 to 1625, where he became a follower of Giovanni Lanfranco and worked with De Cortona and Carracci. He then returned to France, and settles in Paris in 1630. There, Perrier worked in the circle of Vouet and had Charles Le Brun as his pupil. He is mostly remembered for his two series of prints after classical sculptures. These provided visual repertoires of classical models for generations of European artists and collectors.
