The Lexicon Alpha USB Audio Interface is a complete hardware and software solution that turns your computer into a portable, professional 24-bit/48 kHz digital recording studio. It offers a 2x2x2 USB I/O mixer which is powered directly from the USB bus and includes Steinberg Cubase LE4 recording software, plus world-renowned Lexicon reverbs via the Pantheon VST plug-in. Front panel controls let you adjust Direct/Playback mix and input levels, toggle monitoring between stereo and mono, plug in an instrument directly, and monitor with headphones.

The Alpha Studio features one XLR low-noise microphone input, two TRS line inputs, a hi-Z 1/4″ instrument input and two TRS and RCA line outs. The 1/8″ high powered headphone output can be used with professional or consumer headphones. Conveniently powered directly from the USB bus, the Alpha Studio can stream two channels of 44.1 or 48 kHz audio at either 16- or 24-bit resolution to Mac or PC computers. Users can record two tracks at once from two input sources. The microphone and line inputs have individual level controls and peak meters which are summed at the analog-to-digital bus. As with all recording solutions from Lexicon, the Alpha Studio hardware can be used with almost any recording software the user prefers.

Cubase LE4 integrates seamlessly with the Alpha I/O Mixer to achieve an easy-to-use, 48-track complete recording solution that includes all of the modules that you need to track, edit and mix your masterpiece. Can I use an Alto Live mixer to record into my computer?

Yes! Every Alto Live mixer has a USB connection that carries 2 channels of audio from the MAIN output channel of the mixer to your computer. The USB connection also allows you to send audio from your computer back to the last channel of the mixer. 

 

What is the ratio of the built-in compressor?

The built-in compressor is a 3:1 fixed ratio.

 

How is the built-in compressor controlled?

The COMP knob controls both the threshold and makeup gain for the compressor. 

 

If I want to use an Alto Live series mixer in another country do I need a new power supply?

All Alto Live mixers have an auto-switching power supply built in. As long as you have the proper IEC power cable for the current you intend to use, the mixer will function.

 

How come my tablet or smartphone isn’t charging when I plug it into USB port on top of my Alto Live mixer?

The USB power outlet on the top of all Alto Live mixers is a 5V 1A power supply and may charge your personal devices slower than a proper outlet. To optimize the charging speed of your device, try lowering your screen brightness and closing unused applications.

 

Why can’t I hear any audio from the headphone output?

Alto Live mixers allow you to send the main mix to either the CTRL OUT or PHONES output, but not to both at the same time. If you do not hear any signal coming out of your headphones, make sure that MAIN OUT is selected by depressing the button above the headphone volume knob.

 

What is the DFX BYPASS jack for?

This input allows you to use a standard 1/4″ latching-style footswitch to toggle the mixer’s internal effects processor. 

 

What does the green SIG light indicate?

When the green SIG light blinks on a channel, it means that a level of 2dBU has been reached. For optimum performance, try to only have this illuminate at your signals highest peaks. 

 

At what level does the red clipping light illuminate?

The red clipping light will illuminate when your signal has reached +20dBU.
